Baby Acne Treatment
Baby acne, also known as acne neonatorum, is skin disease affects about 20% of newborn babies and infants. Baby acne occur mostly on the cheeks but they could also appear on the baby’s forehead and neck. Sometimes, whiteheads may also develop on your baby’s skin but this skin condition may come and go during the age of four to six months old.
You do not have to panic over this because there is treatment for baby acne and way to prevent it. Perhaps it is important if you can understand what may be the cause of baby acne.
One of the reasons why your baby has acne on the cheeks is because of the connection of your body to the baby. During the last stages of your pregnancy, you passed the hormones to your baby. These hormones develop oil glands into the skin of your baby which in turn cause stimulation and clog the pores of your baby’s skin. Fresh irritation or baby acne may develop after birth but usually, they disappear after three or four weeks.
What you could do to treat your baby acne is to wash your baby face gently with the mild soap and Luke warm water regularly. Do not use the lotions and oils on the affected area of baby skin as this can help to increase acne and make it worse. Also, use gentle detergents when washing baby clothes and other baby accessories, this will help to prevent baby acne.
If the irritation was not relieved after six months, you must consult your doctor for medication. Although there are many lotions and creams you could buy over-the-counter from the drugstores for baby acne treatment, we strongly suggest you to consult with the doctor first.
